About Van der Graaf Generator
Van der Graaf Generator is an English progressive rock band formed in 1967 who crafted one of the most distinctive and uncompromising sounds in rock history, built around Peter Hammill's theatrical vocals, Hugh Banton's Hammond organ, and David Jackson's multi-saxophone arrangements with minimal use of guitars. Their dark, complex compositions like "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers" and "Man-Erg" from albums such as "Pawn Hearts" (1971) pushed progressive rock into more experimental and emotionally intense territory than most of their contemporaries. Though they disbanded in 1978, their influence on alternative and progressive music has been profound, inspiring artists from Sonic Youth to King Crimson. Their reunion in the 2000s with albums like "Do Not Disturb" proved their uncompromising vision remained as powerful and relevant as ever.
