Avett Brothers Lead Earl Scruggs Festival's 2026 North Carolina Return

Labor Day weekend just got a whole lot more compelling. The Avett Brothers will anchor the fifth annual Earl Scruggs Music Festival when it returns to Mill Spring, North Carolina this September 4-6. The folk rock darlings, who've spent two decades perfecting their high-energy blend of banjo-driven Americana, will share headlining duties with Greensky Bluegrass and The Del McCoury Band at Tryon International Equestrian Center.

The festival's bluegrass pedigree runs deep, honoring the late banjo revolutionary who transformed American music with his three-finger picking style. This year's roster reads like a who's who of contemporary acoustic music: Béla Fleck brings his Grammy-winning virtuosity with the My Bluegrass Heart project, while The Earls of Leicester channel classic Flatt and Scruggs energy. Artist-in-residence Alison Brown adds her jazz-influenced banjo mastery to the mix.

The festival introduces the Louise Scruggs Stage this year, a fitting tribute to the woman who managed Earl's career and helped shape bluegrass into a commercial force. Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, Mountain Grass Unit, and rising star Lindsay Lou round out a lineup that spans generations of string band excellence. Tickets are on sale now for what promises to be the strongest iteration yet of this North Carolina tradition.
