About UGK
UGK was a pioneering Southern rap duo from Port Arthur, Texas, formed by Bun B and the late Pimp C, who became godfathers of the "trill" movement that blended country and gangsta rap aesthetics. Their gritty, soulful sound featured Pimp C's melodic hooks and production alongside Bun B's sharp lyricism, creating classics like "Diamonds and Wood" and breakthrough albums like "Ridin' Dirty" that put Southern hip-hop on the map. They achieved mainstream success collaborating with Jay-Z on "Big Pimpin'" while maintaining their underground credibility, influencing countless artists from OutKast to Drake. Despite Pimp C's tragic death in 2007, UGK's legacy as Texas rap royalty and champions of Southern culture remains unmatched in hip-hop history.
