About Phantom Planet
Phantom Planet is a Los Angeles rock band formed in 1994 who gained mainstream recognition for their infectious power-pop anthem "California," which served as the theme song for hit TV series "The O.C." Their sound evolved from garage rock beginnings on early albums like "Raise The Dead" to more polished indie-pop on "The Guest," showcasing tight harmonies and catchy melodies on tracks like "Big Brat" and "California." Though they disbanded in 2008, their cultural impact peaked during the mid-2000s indie rock boom, with "California" becoming synonymous with West Coast youth culture and helping launch the careers of members like Jason Schwartzman, who later found success as an actor and musician. The band reunited in 2019, continuing to craft melodic rock that bridges classic power-pop with modern indie sensibilities.
