Lee Young Ji's Label Mainstream Partners With Warner Music Group

Lee Young Ji and her management company Mainstream have struck a major-label partnership with Warner Music Group, marking another strategic move by the global giant to capture Korean talent before it explodes worldwide. The deal launches with Young Ji's new single "Robot," positioning the rapper and media personality as WMG's latest bet on cross-cultural stardom.

Mainstream represents a new generation of Korean management companies that understand both domestic and international markets. The agency also handles Kik5o and has built a reputation for developing artists who can navigate Korea's complex entertainment landscape while maintaining global appeal. Young Ji herself exemplifies this dual approach, hosting the popular YouTube series "No Prepare" while building her rap career.

Warner Music Korea will coordinate the partnership, reflecting the label's broader strategy of working through local expertise rather than imposing Western approaches. "I had such a strong belief in Young Ji's ability to become a global superstar from the first time I heard her music," said Oscar Scivier, Head of A&R for Warner Music APAC, who spearheaded the negotiations.

The timing suggests Warner Music recognizes that Korean pop culture's international dominance extends far beyond traditional K-pop groups. Young Ji represents a different archetype: the multi-platform entertainer who can rap, host television shows, and command social media attention across multiple countries. Hyunsoo Lee, Mainstream's CEO, emphasized alignment with Warner's vision for "breaking artists globally out of Asia," indicating both companies see this as a template for future deals.
