About Marcy Playground
Marcy Playground is an American alternative rock band from Minneapolis formed in 1994, led by singer-songwriter John Wozniak, who became synonymous with the dreamy, psychedelic-tinged grunge sound of the late '90s. Their breakout hit "Sex And Candy" from their self-titled 1998 debut album became a defining track of alternative rock's mainstream moment, with its hypnotic guitar riff and Wozniak's distinctive nasal vocals creating an instantly recognizable sound. The band blended elements of grunge, indie rock, and psychedelia across albums like "Shapeshifter" and "Leaving Wonderland...In A Fit Of Rage," while deeper cuts like "Saint Joe On the School Bus" showcased their ability to craft both radio-friendly anthems and more experimental material. Though they never quite recaptured the massive success of their debut single, Marcy Playground's influence on late '90s alternative rock and their cult following has endured for nearly three decades.
