I think the lyrics are pretty clear. It seems that the song talks about being disappointed about a certain situation or person (probably an ex-girlfriend or someone he/she was fond of). The singer keeps repeating "wasted time", whether it is "always unforgiving" or "wasted mine", this is probably how he feels about this particular relationship or situation, like he regrets spending time and resources on that... and now, he's on his own, without anyone caring about how he feels or the fact that there will be no one there to bother him. And he's alright about it, like it was something he needed.
