When we fell in love one springtime
Where the Texas wildflowers bloom
Those bluebonnets came in April
But were all but gone by June
Now this time of year reminds me
Of a rare and precious thing
Love came and left so quickly
In our first bluebonnet spring
When the wild blue flowers faded
To make way for summertime
The love that spring created
Was the last thing on her mind
Now when the hills turn blue as Heaven
And the robin starts to sing
It's like she's still here in Texas
In our first bluebonnet spring
Now I'm still right here in Texas
It's the bluest time of year
Where we walked through those bluebonnets
The first springtime she was here
Now I like the flowers better
Than the memories that they bring
I could've stayed right here forever
In our first bluebonnet spring
When the wild blue flowers faded
To make way for summertime
The love that spring created
Was the last thing on her mind
Now when the hills turn blue as Heaven
And the robin starts to sing
It's like she's still here in Texas
In our first bluebonnet spring
Oh, how I miss her here in Texas
And our first bluebonnet spring
