I became an amoeba
Tiny version of me
I started spawning some new ones
Until I’d created an army
I taught them how to be violent
And how to be lonely
I gave them bottom shelf liquor
And I told them to keep drinking
I sent them all off to college
To make their own money
They all came crawling back home
They were bitter and angry
So we created a virus
Got everyone coughing
Made all their livers shut down
While ours were expanding

And you were saying you were fine we all knew it wasn’t true
They were checking your id for an organ donor sticker by the time that you’d walked through
The door to the hospital you were
Bleeding out and they said that it looked critical
And I remembered my seventh grade birthday
How happy I must have felt
And I don’t think I ever remember feeling that happy about

Because there is poison in the water
