Got myself a story
That I would like to tell
'Cause I was once like you are now
Guess it's just as well
Got yourself a tantastic woman
Beauty pageant crown
But the crown don't look so pretty now
She's out runnin' around
I done myself a waitin' child
I was a lonely boy
But you can't spend your life a-just a-sittin' around
Waitin' for other folks to bring you joy
My sermon continues
She was a restless woman
Ramblin' on her mind
And I was a sweet, young, innocent thing
Just off the assembly line
She took me right out on the highway
The lady had a feelin' for speed
When we hit 69 on those high bankin' curves
I thought this is all that I'll ever need
Lay it out
Lady, she had her own set of habits
Do you really think people can change?
She went out and found herself another cowboy
Rode my little home on the range
It must have been some time while she was out buckin' broncos
I kept that torch lit at home
Well sawed fence and the torch went
I came to this conclusion on my own
Well, rather than sittin' at home
Waitin' all alone for some sweet woman to be through
You got to get yourself a sweet, young, innocent thing
And keep her home waitin' for you
They say that God took a rib from Adam
With this he gave Eve life
Well, I don't put that much stock in the Bible
But this line keeps me up at night
'Cause if God, he took a-somethin' from me
To make my lady friend
Think it was a-somethin' I was better off without
'Cause she stuck it right back in again
Well, rather than sittin' at home
Waitin' all alone for some sweet woman to be through
You got to get yourself a sweet, young, innocent thing
And keep her home waitin' for you
And if you think I'm bein' a little bit harsh
I beg you take a look at your own life
And if you haven't got your own share of scabs
Just wait, you'll see that I'm right
So rather than sittin' at home
Waitin' all alone for some sweet woman to be through
You got to get yourself a sweet, young, innocent thing
And keep her home waitin' for you
